Dreamlining is a concept that I got from Tim Ferrissā€™ book The 4 Hour Workweek. His idea is that, in order to achieve maximum work efficiency, you have to love what you do, where you are, and the lifestyle that youā€™re living. So he decided to reverse engineer business advice.

Start with your ideal lifestyle, and build a business around that.

Imagine, if you will, living a life that was not location dependant. Youā€™d be able to travel anywhere you wanted, stopping at all the sites along the way. Youā€™d see majestic temples in places like Indonesia, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Youā€™d visit dense forests and jungles in Brazil, India, and all over Africa. Youā€™d get to see modern cities, far off exotic islands, and when you wanted, youā€™d be able to get away from it all and enjoy your isolation.

Imagine living in Thailand, where you could bounce from city to city in places like Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket. Living in Chiang Mai, you can take an elephant ride down the Ping River to visit the Karen Hill tribe. You could also visit an authentic floating market or beautiful Thai temples like Prang Sam Yot (better known as the Temple of Apes), Wat Rong Khun (known as the White Temple), or Wat Phra Dhammakaya (the largest Buddhist temple in Thailand).

Maybe living in Thailand isnā€™t for you. Well, you could try the Czech Republic. While living in the gorgeous city of Prague, you could visit the Sedlec Ossuary, a church made of human bones, spend your down time in the national library known as the Klementinum; you could even take a day trip to Vienna where you could marvel at the astonishing architecture of the city.

Do you enjoy the idea of living on an exotic island? Imagine living in Penang, Malaysia, or Kuala Lumpur if you want a more touristy experience. In Penang youā€™d be able to: snorkel at the Pulau Paya Marine Park, visit the local graffiti park, go fishing off the coast of Monkey Beach, visit the world famous Snake Temple, or take a train up the mountains to visit Kek Lok Si, and be amazed by the night time lights show.

But maybe the eastern hemisphere seems a bit too far from home. If you lived in Mar Del Plata, Argentina, you could visit the graveyard of ships, take classes on rock climbing or surfing, and if youā€™re feeling adventurous, you could visit Playa Escondida, the local nude beach.

This lifestyle is my dream. I want to be on the road, traveling from one country to the next, taking in as much of the world as I can, building my world view, and expanding my knowledge every step of the way.

When Iā€™m home, I want to live simply, away from everyone on an insulated piece of land with me, my wife, our kids, and the dozens of animals that would support our homestead. While we were away, our close friends and family members would tend to the homestead since they would live on the property with us, or at least near by.

When we wanted to travel within our own beautiful country, we would hop in our converted school bus to hit the road for as long as we desired. We could stop in one of our many investment properties along the way, or we could live in our bus in the wilderness. Our living situation would be bound only by our wants, and our imagination.

For the past couple years, Iā€™ve come to realize that my main goal in life, at least for right now, is to travel, to experience a wide array of cultures, to see what the world has to offer, and to feel like a global citizen. Iā€™m not content with staying in America, and Iā€™m even less enthralled by the idea of living in Toledo, Ohio, a boring, declining city with nothing to do, and little room for opportunity or growth.

Itā€™s time for me to get out and be around people who want to do the same thing as me, make money on the internet. Building a community around yourself with like minded individuals not only gives you the chance to share ideas, collaborate, and invent, but more importantly, it gives you the chance to network.

I thought Iā€™d take some time to figure out what I wanted to do, and now I think I have an answer.

I want to be me. I want to be a digital content creator. I want to do what I want to do, make movies about what I want, and make art whenever I feel like it! I want to tell the stories I deem important, underreported, or newsworthy. I want to explore the world and share my experience with others. Most importantly, I want to inspire people. I want to be like the people Iā€™ve looked at on the internet, and I want people to look at me and say, ā€œIt really is possible.ā€ I want to be the inspiration kids need to do what they want.

I want to create quality, professional, marketable digital content. I want to make pictures, written word articles, audio files, videos, podcasts and a bunch of other stuff. Iā€™ve taught myself all the skills to do it. I also want to sell my art online. A lot of people would buy my art if I price it decently. It may not be a phenomenal income, but itā€™d add to what Iā€™m already doing. I want to make videos for YouTube as well. Daily vlogs, connecting with a fan base, documentaries, advice, mail segments. Iā€™ve got so many ideas that I could make really cool if I were to start making videos.

I want to focus on building online income first, because that will fund the travel, which will make the other goals easier, and more obtainable, and the best way Iā€™ve found to do that? Do what youā€™re passionate about. The only way Iā€™m going to want to work 20 hours a day, is if I enjoy doing it.

Basically, I want to sell all my skills as a personal business. I will edit pictures, videos, and audio for people, I will create logos for them, I will create digital calligraphy that people can buy in prints, I will make write articles for people, I will create websites if people are interested, I will sell stock images and videos, I will make commercials for small businesses. Basically, anything I can do with a camera and a laptop, Iā€™m gonna do it. For two reasons, actually. One, it will give me a source of income to start and two, it will help me build a reputation as someone who makes quality content.
